Dr Didge Dolphin Travel Doo Pro 6
Travel Doo Pro 6 Chromatic Slide Didgeridoo. – The Travel Doo Pro 6 is a contemporary musical instrument made of hard fibre by Dr Arpana (Dr Didge Dolphin) who practiced as a doctor at Garma and Miwatj Aboriginal Health in Nhulunbuy, N.T, Australia for over 10 years.
During his time spent in Nhulunbuy, Arpana spent a lot of time with and was adopted by old man Mr Gurruwiwi and was given his blessings and permission to share yidaki knowledge with the wider community.
The Travel Doo Pro 6 is completely Chromatic and plays through several octaves allowing you to adjust the key and octave and harmonize the drone with any other instruments you have on hand. The Travel Doo Pro 6 didgeridoo covers the Chromatic range of G#1 to C#3 and every note in between.
Key Points
The TDP6 is an all-purpose multi drone didgeridoo for beginners and advanced players alike. It is great for private use and performance and is excellent for sound healings. Its light weight 3.2kg and fits into a 62cm travel bag.
The TDP6 can be set up into at least 25 different variations.
The TDP6 consists of 3 body parts which are pressed and turned together, and 2 aluminium sliders which are collapsible, and 1 smaller aluminium slider for extra length.
When the sliders are fully extended the key is A#1. When fully collapsed the key is F2. This range of notes are the common notes used when playing didgeridoo. When the small slider is added, the key can go lower to G#1. The TDP6 has 3 press and turn, interchangeable, wooden mouth pieces 28.5mm, 30mm and 32mm on the first slider and 2 press and turn mouth pieces 34mm and 30mm on the second slider.
This is the added feature compared to the Travel Doo Pro 5 (TDP5) in that these 2 extra mouthpieces on the second slider allow for more variations in playing style, particularly beat boxing and other contemporary styles.
The TDP6 can also be played using the adaptor to connect part 1 to 3 leaving part 2 off. This creates a more yidaki traditional shape and key range is C2 – A#2. When the small slider is added, the key drops to A#1. It is excellent for playing in higher keys and a more traditional style of playing ie hard and fast with easy toots.
Handy Tips
Use a clip on tuner with microphone mode.
For ease of sliding use silicon spray or a clear non-toxic oil as the best lubricant.
The various O rings are used to create an air seal on sliders and mouthpieces. At the top of the top slider where the mouthpieces attach is a slightly smaller O ring then the second O ring is slightly larger. The degree of seal on the O ring can be adjusted by adding or subtracting plumbers tape underneath.
Tuning Configurations
Moving any of the 2 sliders approximately 10cm (4inches) changes the key by a semitone. Both sliders can be fully in or out (to the O ring so it doesn’t lose the seal) or any variation in between.
The additional slider can be added to the top slider for extra length therefore lowering the key.
2 O rings can be added on the sliders to stop it from moving when you are playing in a fixed key.
